April Clendenin: February 2021 Instructor of the Month

When April came to our studio, our barre program was little more than exercises being led at a ballet barre. With her background in formal ballet training and skill as an instructor, she not only revived the barre classes, but created a curriculum for training incoming barre and Pilates instructors. Through her hard work, loyalty, and dedication, she has earned herself the title of Lead Barre Instructor, Lead Pilates Instructor, and now, Studio Manager. April takes pride in everything that she does, both personally and professionally. She is the kind of person you want in your corner. She is supportive, smart, creative, and hilarious. We are so proud of everything she has accomplished and grateful for what she has done to help build our community at the House of Love. Join her for class and if you're interested in becoming a Pilates instructor, join her for Hot Pilates Teacher Training!

Q: How did you get into the fitness world and when did you know you wanted to become an instructor? A: I found the fitness world in 2015 when I started taking barre classes. The classes reminded me of my dancing days. When my studio closed, a few clients had referred me to Maxine and Evolution Yoga. I reached out to Maxine and she hired me on the spot. Q: What do you feel is your purpose as a Yoga teacher (and/or) fitness instructor? A: My purpose as a fitness instructor is to give clients the motivation that they can do anything. Fitness doesn’t have to be boring. Keeping the fun in the workouts is what keeps people coming back. When they see results, that is an added bonus. Q: What are some of your daily rituals? A: Waking before the sun to have some “me” time before the day begins. Since the pandemic started, I have not been home alone since my kids are attending school from home. This time by myself in the morning allows me to plan my day so that it can be successful for all. Who inspires you? A: My mom has always inspired me. She was a young mom and faced many obstacles but didn’t let any of them get in her way. Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at Evolution Yoga? A: Evolution Yoga is my happy place. I get to do what I love and meet so many people. Q: When you’re not teaching classes at Evolution Yoga, what are you doing? A: Spending time with my family.
